FLAT IN KOUKAKI, ATHENS

This flat was purchased in 2024, on a quiet street in the heart of Koukaki — a neighborhood within walking distance of some of Athens’ most inspiring landmarks: the Acropolis, the new Opera House and National Library, and Onassis Stegi.

From the moment I stepped inside, the flat felt calm and welcoming — as if it was gently asking to be chosen.

The renovation began by stripping away the old layers: wallpapers were removed, the original kitchen taken out. The space was then redefined with warm white walls, creating a soft and luminous base. A new white kitchen was installed, paired with ceramic tiles featuring delicate floral motifs. The ceiling was painted in a crisp, bright white, enhancing the sense of height and light.

In the bathroom, the original grey tiles were transformed with a light green finish, bringing freshness and warmth. The shower area was expanded by relocating the washing machine into the kitchen, allowing the bathroom to breathe and function more generously.

To complete the space, vintage furniture and lamps were carefully selected, carpets were sourced from flea markets, and a solid wood sofa and a large, handcrafted dining table were added. Each element was chosen to give the flat character, texture, and a sense of lived-in elegance.

The result is a flat that feels warm, inviting, and deeply human — a space meant to be used, enjoyed, and lived in.

I work with flats that already carry a quiet promise.

In Athens, I search for apartments in neighborhoods with cultural depth and everyday beauty — places where life unfolds naturally. When I enter a flat, I listen to it: its light, proportions, silence, and rhythm. I’m drawn to spaces that feel calm, almost as if they are waiting to be chosen.

Once the flat is found, the renovation begins by clearing what no longer belongs. Layers are removed, layouts are refined, and the space is given room to breathe. Walls are treated as a backdrop for light, usually in warm whites that soften the atmosphere and allow materials and objects to speak.

Furnishing is an essential part of the process. I mix vintage finds, flea-market carpets, and solid wood pieces with contemporary elements. Nothing is overly staged. Everything is chosen to feel lived in, grounded, and honest.

The result is not a “designed” flat, but a home with soul — warm, inviting, and meant to be used and enjoyed.
